| So I got all the classes I wanted! Concept, Quadruped, and Anthropology. I got the TBA Concept class but that's okay. I would have loved to have either Khouri or Maurer but hopefully whoever does mine will be okaaay.
For my own reference: Monday, Feb. 15th @ Trustees: Bruce Smith Presentation - Bruce Smith, lead animator for the Dr Facilier character in Walt Disney Animation Studios' recent feature release The Princess and the Frog, will be discussing the role of lead animator and talking about character development at WDAS.
THIS SOUNDS AWESOME.
I feel disconnected from internet goings-on. I haven't uploaded any art to anywhere in forever so haven't gotten any internet art feedback. Haven't been on AIM so I haven't talked to any internet people. Should probably do something about that. | comments: 5 comments or Leave a comment |
| Tomorrow... today? Monday is CLASS REGISTRATION DAY, a day both great and terrible. However, I actually have a lot of options for next quarter! There's only one class I absolutely have to take and must build all other classes around. As opposed to two or three. Just the one! Makes it much easier.
The class I must take is Concept Development for Animation, it's the class you have to take before you
hold on, I just freaked out a little bit
the class you have to take before taking SENIOR ANIMATION PROJECT HOLY SHIT
WHY IS COLLEGE GOING SO FAST
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH
agj;dj;ja;dal;sd;sgj;;ag;df
Anyway, yes, have to take Concept. The other two are pretty much open. I need to take the following eventually: Art History elective, Intro to Mass Comm (I've been putting this off because it sounds horrendous), English elective, Social/Behavioral Science class, 3 more studio electives, and two free electives. Other than that, Concept, Senior Project I, Senior Project II, and Animation Portfolio.
It's insane how quickly this is going.
Here's my two options, hopefully I will get one or the other so I don't have to come up with another class combo really quickly tomorrow: OPTION 1: 30926 (concept) 30923 (quad) 30710 (anthro) OPTION 2: 30925 (3D char II) 30757 (mass comm) 30929 (concept)
Quad is 3D Quadruped Animation, anthro is Anthropology (social science elective), 3D char II is 3D Character Animation II. Yep. Gotta sign up at 1:30pm
I haven't posted on here for real in a while. How's everybody doing? | comments: 2 comments or Leave a comment |
| WOOOOOO OSCARS Awesome things: District 9 for Best Picture! Up for Best Picture! Morgan Freeman for Best Leading Actor! Secret of Kells for Best Animated Picture! District 9 for Film Editing! District 9 for Visual Effects (Poor District 9 and Star Trek, there's no way they'll win against Avatar), Writing (Adaptive)(!) Up for Writing (Original) !
Stupid things: AVATAR EVERYWHERE Princess and the Frog got nominated for Best Animated Picture BUT NOT PONYO? PONYO WAS SO MUCH BETTER THAN PRINCESS AND THE FROG. God damnit. I hope Fantastic Mr. Fox wins and I haven't even seen that one yet. There are way too many Best Picture nominees. I did not see enough movies this year. Punxsutawney Phil says 6 more weeks of winter.
And now back to working on school stuff. | comments: 14 comments or Leave a comment |
| ( pokemon meme )
Funny how I don't post here in forever and when I do it is a silly pokemon meme. Well, I am having fun at school. I modeled a big armchair in Maya! I almost forgot how to model things. And. Um. Animated a hop in Maya. And... Am trying to remember how to UV things in Maya so I can make my armchair look like it's made of something.
I'll make a real post later.
Oh, wait, I almost forgot again. estarial: THANK YOU SO MUCH for your Christmas present, it made me SO HAPPY. Oh and guess what! The last book I read was A Walk in the Woods! Thank you for recommending it, I liked it a lot :) Thanks for sending the Australia one! | comments: 4 comments or Leave a comment |

| Well, happy new year! I had a really pitiful New Year's Eve home alone, all by myself with my sparkling grape juice. Resolutions: DRAW MORE. (I make this resolution every year and every year I do WORSE on it. This is a horrible sign.) but mostly... DO MORE. I have done nothing truly exciting or noteworthy in my life. Hopefully 2010 (that is so odd to write. 2010) will bring something extraordinary. This summer marks the summer of internship. Will I get an internship? Will I have built up an impressive portfolio in time to be considered for one? Will I, perhaps, get to experience what life as an animator will really be like? This December, will I go to Japan on the school trip? Will I have friends who would go, too? Will I follow through on my plans to save money this year, so that my crazy claims of going to South America after I graduate actually HAPPEN? Will I finally get angry enough about being fat to do something about it? Will anything in my life actually change? I don't know the answer to any of those questions. I haven't even thought about what's going to happen this year. It's a really, really big year for me. With luck, I'll pass my last six classes as a junior, nab a summer internship, and start my SENIOR YEAR OF COLLEGE.
So, yeah. What do we call this decade? The twenty-tens? Twenty-teens? ...Tweens? Here's to the twenty-tens (I like that one best.) | comments: 1 comment or Leave a comment |
| Day 19 → A talent of yours
Uuuhhh. Uuummm. I got nothin'. Can't even say drawing anymore, which is what I would normally say. I dunno!
SO UMMM. Last night we went and saw Avatar at the IMAX in 3D and it was AWESOME. So much fun. And of course today is Christmas. I got some good presents, a couple video games and some neat little toys and some candy and stuff. Mostly I was excited for my sister to open my present for her, which was a TAXIDERMIED CHICKEN.
 Yeah, it's awesome. | comments: 3 comments or Leave a comment |
| Day 17 → An art piece (painting, drawing, sculpture, etc.)

TheDoberman over on DeviantArt is an awesome contemporary animalier and he sculpts gorillas all the time and gorillas are awesome so he is awesome by default.

| I just got the most ADORABLE CHRISTMAS CARD EVER from Aquanite, holy crap it is the cutest. Aqua can I have the digital file of the picture because it needs to be my desktop. The leg stump is genius.
Day 16 → A song that makes you cry (or nearly)

| Day 14 → A non-fictional book

Panati's Browser's Book of Beginnings is really fun to read. It was the first time the origin of life on earth was explained to me in a way I could understand. Anyway, it's just fun to read.
Day 15 → A fanfic
I don't think I've ever actually read a fanfiction before, unless Alan Dean Foster's "The Hand of Dinotopia" and "Dinotopia Lost" count. They are like author-sanctioned, published fan-fiction.

In IRL news, I bought my sister a taxidermied chicken for Christmas. It cost almost $70 but it was totally worth it. Her name is Florence. I can't wait for Christmas just so I can officially give her to my sister. Best. Present. Ever. | comments: Leave a comment |

| So here was my thought process about two minutes ago.
"I should draw something. I'll draw a comic! What should it be about, I don't really have any stories. What about the baboon thing? No, drawing baboons is too difficult to be fun yet. Well, what about Shape? No, that's not too much fun to draw either since I stumble over the hands so much, he takes me too long to draw. Well what can I draw pretty fast? I can draw little dinosaurs pretty fast. But what kind of story would I write about dinosaurs? Oh man, I would be so committed to drawing backgrounds for dinosaurs, fuck that. How about I just not draw anything."
And that is why I haven't drawn anything all break.
I am behind on that 30 Day Meme, I will make a separate post for it and other happier things. | comments: 1 comment or Leave a comment |
| Day 13 → A fictional book

DINOTOPIAAAAA
Only the most amazing escapism books ever made ever. When I was little I would get depressed because I couldn't actually go there. I wanted to be a habitat partner!

Aaaugh and SKYBAX RIDING WTF.

Is there ANYTHING cooler than Skybax riding? Oh god and the artwork as;;gdajg;ahf;h;

Best books ever. | comments: 4 comments or Leave a comment |
| Day 12 → Whatever tickles your fancy
Whatever tickles my fancy, hmmm....

Shuttle-Riding Bat Dies The Most Glorious Death Imaginable
On a cool spring eve, March 15th, 2009, a bat, crippled and wistful, clung to the Space Shuttle Discovery as it was thrust toward the great beyond. Goodbye and godspeed, my magnificent Spacebat.
At some point during the countdown, Spacebat—a Free-Tailed Chiroptera—was spotted latched to the foam of the external fuel tank, occasionally moving but never letting go. Wildlife experts deduced that he had injured his wing and shoulder, leaving him with little chance of survival. He remained on the tank until launch. NASA's cold report? "The animal likely perished quickly during Discovery's climb into orbit."
True! But here's how it should have read:
Bereft of his ability to fly and with nowhere to go, a courageous bat climbed aboard our Discovery with stars in his weak little eyes. The launch commenced, and Spacebat trembled as his frail mammalian body was gently pushed skyward. For the last time, he felt the primal joy of flight; for the first, the indescribable feeling of ascending toward his dream—a place far away from piercing screeches and crowded caves, stretching forever into fathomless blackness.
Whether he was consumed in the exhaust flames or frozen solid in the stratosphere is of no concern. We know that Spacebat died, but his dream will live on in all of us.

I almost forgot to do this again!

| Day 09 → A photo you took
Woops, forgot to do this yesterday.

| Day 08 → A photo that makes you angry/sad
So this is a strange one. There's plenty of things I could post a picture of; dead animals, war victims, Fred Phelps rallies, etc. etc. All of them make me angry or sad. But I don't want to post a picture of that sort of thing, that's depressing. So here is a link you can look at to get all nice and depressed: Chris Jordan's Running the Numbers series
And here is a picture of a Mountain Gorilla.
